Thanks for visiting my web page. As the State Representative from Dubuque and Speaker of the Iowa House, my goal is to connect Iowans with their government by listening to them and engaging them to help us make our state a better place to live.

The 2007 legislative session ended in April and I’m proud of the work we accomplished. We outlined a Plan for Prosperity last fall to guide us during session and I’m pleased to report that we accomplished 15 of the 16 items in our plan. We improved education from the early years through college with a new preschool initiative, better teacher pay, and enough state resources for higher education to keep it tuition affordable.

In an effort to make Iowa the “Green State,” we enacted the Iowa Power Fund and enhanced our energy efficiency efforts. Our goal is to reduce our dependence on foreign oil and become energy independent by 2025. We also raised the minimum wage and adopted legislation to allow small businesses to form health insurance pools to reduce their cost of insurance.

The 2008 legislative session begins in January and I encourage you to be an active participant in your state government. From health care to good jobs to education, your input can make a difference.
