Thanks for visiting my web page. As the State Representative from Dubuque, my goal is to connect Iowans with their  government by listening to them and engaging them to help us make our state a  better place to live. 

I'm working with my colleagues to help create jobs and grow Iowa’s economy so that middle class families can get ahead. We must speed up the recovery of our economy by creating new jobs and opportunities for families in communities large and small. 

I believe the best way to strengthen the middle class is to put Iowans back to work.  We should be helping small businesses grow by reducing property taxes for small and medium sized businesses.  Already a world leader, we should also work to encourage more growth in the renewable energy industry because those good-paying jobs can’t be shipped overseas.  We should also make sure that Iowa businesses have the first crack at state and local contracts, so our tax dollars create jobs here in Iowa, not China or Mexico.

Attracting and keeping good-paying jobs in Iowa for the future also requires a highly-skilled workforce.  We must guarantee that every Iowa student is prepared for the jobs of the future.  We can improve our schools so students graduate with the skills necessary to land a good job or continue their education, invest in community colleges to train – and retrain – workers for high-skilled jobs, and make sure higher education is affordable for every middle class family. 

Iowans are tired of the partisan bickering and political games.  I will work to find common ground and make progress on the issues that affect the lives of everyday Iowans.  It doesn’t matter if it’s a Republican idea or a Democratic idea, I will work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to help create jobs and grow the middle class.
